In marital therapy, Dr. Flannick works with both husband and wife to identify the issues that have contributed to the problems in the relationship; effective communication and easy-to-learn behavioral skills necessary to resolve the problems are proposed. At the beginning of treatment, each individual has the opportunity to meet individually with Dr. Flannick as often as necessary before joint meetings with their spouse. Since Parakleseos is rooted in a Christian worldview, every attempt is made to help the couple resolve their issues, especially if they have children, in order to preserve the integrity of their marriage and improve the climate in the home.
Parakleseos also is firmly committed to the Christian belief that men and women share distinct roles in a marriage, and that marriages thrive when these roles are acknowledged and respected. Because God created men and women as distinct from each other (Genesis 1:27), communication often gets distorted across the gender lines; so Dr. Flannick works to help each party more accurately understand and interpret the other’s communications.

Dr. James Flannick passed into his eternal reward on Aug. 29, 2025, after living with cancer for more than two years. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, as well as three children and nine grandchildren.
A devoted and loving husband and father, Dr. Flannick practiced for more than 40 years as a clinical psychologist, a vocation through which he sought to serve as a conduit of God's grace. May his legacy, Parakleseos, continue bearing fruits in the lives of those he counseled.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
