The family is the domestic church, where children learn to love and reverence God. It is also the foundation on which God builds society, and our refuge as we struggle with the challenges of life. Thus, harmonious relationships within the family are of paramount importance; and the goal of family therapy is the achievement of this harmony.
The actual process involves seeing two or more parties from the same family together in the same session. This could be, for example, both parents and a problem child; or, the entire family together. Patterns of relationship in the family are elucidated and healthier alternatives proposed, with the end result being a reduction in hurtful, destructive interactions and an increase in positive, supportive, loving interactions. The role of the parents as leaders of the family and having rightful authority over their children is acknowledged, respected and supported.

Dr. James Flannick passed into his eternal reward on Aug. 29, 2025, after living with cancer for more than two years. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, as well as three children and nine grandchildren.
A devoted and loving husband and father, Dr. Flannick practiced for more than 40 years as a clinical psychologist, a vocation through which he sought to serve as a conduit of God's grace. May his legacy, Parakleseos, continue bearing fruits in the lives of those he counseled.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
